FAST & RELIABLE BESPOKE CASTINGS
Who are we?
Owl castings is the result of a chance meeting between a frustrated but experienced Model Engineer and a Mechanical Engineer specialising in design, David Leahy and Sam Baynham.
David’s frustration was caused by the increasing difficulty sourcing one off, or small runs of castings at an affordable price for the model locomotives he was working on.
Sam a degree qualified Mechanical Engineer was able to show how computer aided design (CAD) and 3D printing can quickly and economically produce a very detailed pattern from which almost any castings can be made.
This combination and a workshop foundry led to the birth of one of Europe’s 1st facilities for small volume castings for the model engineer, Owl Castings.
There are very few foundries left in the UK who can economically cast small orders of iron, brass, bronze and aluminium.
Owl castings cater for hobbyists who want a bespoke part turned into a casting and may only have the paper drawing to work from.
Our vision is simple... provide a single resource that can design, prototype and cast a part for the hobbyist or small volume engineering facility.
We use the latest in CAD technology to produce casting patterns in a multitude of materials that can then be used for casting a one off or multiple castings.
Using the latest technology
and emerging manufacturing methods we will always be ready for market change and can guarantee a fast and reliable service.
We have a small but functional workshop that enables us to cast iron in greensand, petrobond and ceramic shell up to 30Kg. For our non-ferrous metal castings, we have vacuum investment castings, ceramic shell and lost wax up to 40Kg.

We embrace any challenge and love to get involved in interesting projects
We are experienced and passionate about design and manufacture, we appreciate and understand issues within the industry and of course love a challenge.
We understand this is your passion too, so we can have as small or big an input to your project as you require.
We offer a quick but reliable service using the most accurate manufacturing methods producing cost effective results with a personal and friendly service.
'Owl Castings have produced some custom parts for my model steam locomotive. The whole process was extremely easy and they offered friendly help and advice at every step to ensure that the finished product was exactly what I wanted. My outline sketches were converted into 3D drawings that were made available on line for me to view and approve, with any changes being made very quickly without any problems. On completion of the drawings a 3D printed part was then supplied for final approval before the casting was carried out. The time taken to get my parts from start to finish was only a matter of weeks which far exceeded my expectations. The service provided was very professional throughout, which I would thoroughly recommend to others.'
'I must say well impressed by the service .
Recommend I certainly will.'
'Very pleased, the size is spot on, just right for machining tolerance. Thank you for your excellent service.'
But don't just take our word...
What our customers have said:
'I have used Owl Castings on several of my projects to generate both brass and bronze castings. In all cases the part produced and the service has been to a great standard. It’s a pleasure working with a casting facility who also share the same passion for steam and historic locomotives. They are a great asset to any model engineer wanting unique castings at low prices.'
